THE LUCAS FAMILY GRAVESITE PROJECT


          Another project the Foundation is undertaking is to locate, document, and when possible, restore & repair, Lucas family graves and graveyards.  Unfortunately, many of the graves are showing their age and are loosing the battle with the elements.  The first grave site the Foundation hopes to restore is the grave of Governor Robert E. Lucas in Iowa City.  It can be seen in the photo at the immediate left.  The second restoration project the Foundation plans to undertake is the restoration of the Lucas Family Graveyard at Elmwood Estate in near Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, West Virginia.  This grave yard is the family's ancestral burying ground for for over 100 years and contains the graves of Edward Lucas II and his three wives among many others.  The family grave plot is in the photo below and a layout map of the cemetery is shown to the lower left.    For more information and additional photos click on the individual cemetery links below.
